Pampered Paddling

If the thought of a canoe trip brings to mind images of hoisting a heavy canoe overhead while tramping through the forest and sleeping on a hard patch of dirt, it’s time to adjust your thinking. Building on the trend of “glamping,” today’s savvy outfitters are introducing a new breed of paddling trips that will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed, and yes, even a little pampered. The gentle currents of the Grand River make it a perfect destination for these easy escapes.

A Grand Family Adventure
If you’ve been wanting to introduce your kids to paddling, but aren’t quite sure where to begin, Grand Experience’s Grand Family Adventure is an easy-as-pie option.
An experienced guide will load you and your crew into canoes or kayaks for a scenic paddle down the Grand River’s Cayuga Route. As you float, your Paddle Canada-certified guide will help you spot the gems of the Carolinian forest that line the river, including unique tree and plant species, birds, and even ancient gypsum mines from the early 1800’s. You’ll stretch your legs with a hike along the Trail of the White Cedar and learn about the First Canadian tribe that walked this same path 400 years ago. Next, it’s back onto the water toward Whiteman’s Creek, where you’ll learn the legend behind this spring-fed creek that’s famous across North America for its outstanding trout fishing. After docking at Brant Conservation Area you’ll be shuttled to the Brant Park Inn where you can cool off in the swimming pool and soothe tired muscles in the whirlpool and sauna. There’s also a fun outdoor playground for the kids to enjoy, if they have any energy left to burn!
